PC Expo A trade show for resellers, corporate managers and technical professionals from CMP Media LLC, a subsidiary of United Business Media. First held in New York in 1983 with 120 exhibitors and 9,600 attendees, the show grew from the personal computer's early years to 550 vendors and more than  2000

ServerWorks Corp., the leading independent supplier of high-performance core logic for Intel(R)-based servers, today announced that it plans to incorporate IBM's recently unveiled Memory eXpansion Technology (MXT (Memory eXpansion Technology) A memory expansion technique introduced by IBM in 2002 for its Intel-based xSeries servers. Using a hardware compression algorithm, MXT doubles the amount of main memory in the computer. It is also available for licensing to other vendors. ) into its next-generation high-end core logic solutions.

The company anticipates that it will first offer MXT in a product now known by the code name "Pinnacle pinnacle (pĭn`ĭkəl), minor architectural motif of vertical tapering shape, usually crowning a pier, buttress, or gable. Although sometimes it appears in Renaissance design, as in the Certosa di Pavia, it is almost exclusively a medieval ." ServerWorks has the right to sell products incorporating MXT technology to all its customers.

IBM's new Memory eXpansion Technology doubles the effective memory capacity of computer servers, a breakthrough that can save Internet Service Providers Internet service provider (ISP)

and other large technology installations millions of dollars. The MXT-enabled memory controller within the ServerWorks core logic chipset A group of chips designed to work as a unit to perform a function. For example, a modem chipset contains all the primary circuits for transmitting and receiving. A PC chipset provides the electronic interfaces between all subsystems (see PC chipset for illustration).  compresses and stores data and instructions in main memory, thus increasing the effective size of the memory system. To accomplish this, MXT adds a new third-level cache that contains expanded (i.e., uncompressed) data and instructions, and then deploys the system's remaining physical memory as a backing store for this third-level cache. MXT utilizes highly sophisticated compression algorithms The following is a list of the algorithms described in Wikipedia. The ServerWorks MXT program marks the second time the company has worked with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  to incorporate IBM technology into ServerWorks' core logic for Intel-based servers. The two companies recently signed a five-year technology sharing agreement that includes the MXT development activities, along with other advanced projects. Last year, ServerWorks added IBM's "Chipkill" technology to the memory controller in the currently shipping ServerSet III HE core logic. Both efforts fall within IBM's "X-architecture initiative" that brings IBM high-end server technologies to its Netfinity PC server line.

"Memory eXpansion Technology makes Intel-based servers work better, and that's what ServerWorks is all about," noted Raju Vegesna, ServerWorks' president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "We are excited to be working so closely with IBM to deliver this technology to our customers. By effectively doubling the memory capacity in each system, our "Pinnacle" ServerSets will give users the option of reducing costs while maintaining existing performance levels, or improving performance while maintaining current levels of expenditures."

About ServerWorks:

ServerWorks Corp., (formerly Reliance Computer Corp.), the world's leading independent supplier of high-performance core logic for Intel(R)-based servers and workstations, has delivered more than two million ServerSet(TM) chipsets since its inception in 1995. Its recently introduced ServerSet(TM) III architecture allows Original Equipment Manufacturers to address a wide range of market requirements with a single family of compatible core logic devices. ServerWorks products form the basis for entry-level and mid-range servers offered by top-tier server suppliers, including Compaq Computer, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intergraph and NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.
. Privately held ServerWorks is based in Santa Clara, Calif.
