Septime's on a roll.

With the disastrous labor problems behind them, Septime Webre and The Washington Ballet are on a roll. At a matinee at the Kennedy Center in May, Webre bounded onto the stage and invited kids from the audience to be part of his make-a-dance session. A pied piper type of artistic director, Webre showed how to make a dance based on falling out of bed and pouring milk over Rice Krispies--an irresistible way to draw the audience in. But he would have had them in the palm of his hand anyway. The Bach/Beatles Project was a winner. In State of Wonder, Webre's world premiere to The Goldberg Variations, the choreography seemed to flow right out of him. Witty and delightful, the movements brought light and mischief to the Bach. Trey McIntyre's new Beatles piece, Always, No Sometimes, was varied and fun (even if the costumes looked more '50s than '60s). And the dancers sparkled in every section.
