Sepaton's S2100 virtual tape library.

Sepaton Inc., a young player in the game of data protection, has just announced the release of their S2100 virtual tape library A hard disk array that emulates a tape library. A virtual tape library (VTL) enables the storage medium to be switched from tapes to disks while continuing to use the existing tape backup software. The new offering--the first in the company's family of data protection solutions--is said to help customers shrink backup windows and accelerate restore times at up to ten times the speed of tape. The S2100 is a disk-based, virtual tape library that allows data center managers to dramatically improve backup and restore times with reliability and flexibility commonly unavailable in tape-based systems.

Utilizing Sepaton's unique Scalable Replication In database management, the ability to keep distributed databases synchronized by routinely copying the entire database or subsets of the database to other servers in the network.

There are various replication methods.
Engine optimized for high-performance data movement and the virtual tape library application, the S2100 offers the highest level of scalability and performance available today. The S2100 scales from 3.5TB to 200TB and emulates multiple tape libraries and multiple tape cartridge See cartridge.  formats simultaneously in a single appliance.

"Initial customer reaction to the S2100 has been outstanding," said Mike Worhach, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "Backup remains a major pain point for IT managers and our value proposition of ten times faster backups at half the cost with no disruption disruption /dis·rup·tion/ (dis-rup´shun) a morphologic defect resulting from the extrinsic breakdown of, or interference with, a developmental process.  is proving to be highly compelling to the market."

The company will offer additional data protection applications to be deployed on the same platform by utilizing its content-aware architecture.

Sepaton's S2100 is currently being distributed by a network of value-added resellers A value-added reseller (VAR) is a company that adds some feature(s) to an existing product(s), then resells it (usually to end-users) as an integrated product or complete "turn-key" solution. .
