Seven Lane County residents will be honored Wednesday at a breakfast honoring senior role models.

Betty Janeway, Ginny Kelly, Rozie Mock, Carmela Petrosino, Frances Powell, LaVonne Bowder and Mara Taylor will be recognized by OASIS, or Older Adult Service and Information Service, for volunteer service to the community.

Janeway, 77, has served as a volunteer at Cascade Hospice since 2000. Willing to work with more than one patient at a time, often on short notice, Janeway brings garden flowers to brighten patients rooms. She also volunteers for the American Cancer Society American Cancer Society,
n.pr established in 1913, this national volunteer-based health organization is committed to the elimination of cancer through prevention and treatment and to diminishing cancer suffering through advocacy, scholarship, research,
, driving patients to chemotherapy.

Kelly, 63, is a volunteer with Florence Food Share. She has served as a garden volunteer and board member since 1998. Kelly was instrumental in the writing and adoption of board policies and serves on the board's fund-raising and nominations committees. She's also a founding member of Florence Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity, nonprofit ecumenical Christian organization that enables low-income people to own affordable, livable housing. Headquartered in Americus, Ga., it was founded in 1976 by businessman Millard Fuller and his wife.  and is a Meals on Wheels n. 1. A program that delivers hot meals to persons, such as the elderly or disabled, who are confined to their homes and unable to cook for themselves; also, the meals thus delivered. Such programs are usually conducted by governmental or charitable organizations.  volunteer.

Mock, 84, gives one-on-one computer lessons to preschoolers five hours each week at Head Start of Lane County. She also lectures and has made a video for the Alzheimer's Association The Alzheimer's Association, incorportated on April 10, 1980 as the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Inc., is a non-profit American voluntary health organization which focuses on care, support and research for Alzheimer's disease.  about caring for her husband in his last year. Mock serves as Web master and newsletter editor for the McKenzie Carvers. She also volunteers as a Sunshine Girl for the American Merchant Marines and is member of the Rosie the Riveter Rosie the Riveter

Petrosino, 90, began work as a classroom volunteer in 1996, helping with reading, playing and cleanup at EC CARES/West Lane County. Last year, she logged 250 hours volunteering with children 18 months to 5 years old with developmental disabilities developmental disabilities (DD),
n.pl the pathologic conditions that have their origin in the embryology and growth and development of an individual. DDs usually appear clinically before 18 years of age.

Powell, 68, has presented seminars on consumer scams, fraud and identity theft as part of volunteer work with the Eugene Police Department. From 2002 to 2004, Powell provided data entry of police reports twice a week, bringing a large data backlog up to date.

She also volunteered with AARP's Tax Aid Program.

Bowder, 64, has volunteered more than 1,000 hours as a front office volunteer and OASIS tutor since 1998. She served as founding tutor at two OASIS-involved elementary schools in the Eugene School District Eugene School District (4J) is a public school district in the U.S. state of Oregon. It serves the city of Eugene Elementary schools

. Bowder provided initial outreach with South Lane School District with 17 OASIS tutors in three Cottage Grove schools.

Mara Taylor, 64, has volunteered more than 1,000 hours at OASIS' advisory council and development committee since 1998. She assisted OASIS' Leadership Funders Club in planning events and welcoming donors as well as creating several artistic displays in the OASIS center. As a PeaceHealth volunteer since 2000, Taylor has worked in various departments at the hospital. She joined the hospital guild in 2004. In addition, Taylor volunteered with Senior and Disabled Services in 2002 and 2003.
