EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 2003

Solution Offers an Affordable, Scalable Way to Extend

Policy-Based Email Throughout the Enterprise

Sendmail An SMTP-based message transfer agent (MTA) that runs under Unix. Developed at the University of California at Berkeley by Eric Allman in 1981, sendmail stores and forwards more mail than any other MTA on the Internet. In 1998, Allman commercialized the product by forming Sendmail, Inc.  Inc. today announced it is working with HP and Intel to launch Workforce Mail, a complete Linux-based mail solution.

Sendmail's solution enables enterprises to integrate deskless workers into corporate email infrastructures cost-effectively.

Workforce Mail allows mobile employees such as hospital nurses, field service staff, warehouse/store managers or delivery personnel to use email via kiosks or other wireless access devices. The solution enables them to communicate with company headquarters, human resources The fancy word for "people." Unlike alternative, non-policy based email solutions, Workforce Mail extends corporate email policy to deskless workers which allows companies to better manage risk. Workforce Mail can also be set up to permit business-only usage.

The Carrier Grade Linux-based solution integrates Sendmail's email software, industry-standard HP ProLiant servers and Intel's Centrino low-power wireless platform, allowing enterprises to provide employees with reliable access to email from almost any location.

"Providing email to deskless workers enables the organization to speak to all employees at the same time with a consistent voice," said Mark Levitt, vice president Collaborative Computing computing - computer , IDC. "Deskless workers feel more connected to the organization because they know what's happening, which tends to improve morale and employee satisfaction."

"Workers without email could be the greatest untapped resource. Our research shows that extending email to deskless workers allows enterprises to reduce operational costs, improve communications with customers, and increase employee motivation and productivity," said Greg Olson (person) Greg Olson - President and CEO of Sendmail Inc.. Olson is an industry veteran who worked on distributed systems at Summit Systems Inc. then at Britton Lee Inc., Sybase Inc. and Integrated Systems Inc.. , chairman and co-founder of Sendmail Inc. "Through our work with HP and Intel, and the introduction of Workforce Mail, Sendmail aims to bring an end to 'email inequality'."

Workforce Mail also includes powerful content management software to lessen less·en

Anti-spam and anti-virus components enable customers to defend their networks against attack, while policy enforcement filters can be deployed by firms to protect corporate information and safeguard against corporate policy violations. Workforce Mail gives users the flexibility to select preferred access methods and route email accordingly, maximizing efficiency and meeting the individual requirements of users.
