Senator Mike Machado Presents California Lottery's Exceptional Educator Award to Fairfield Teacher.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2003

Since April of 2001, the California Lottery has presented the "Exceptional Educator" awards on "The Big Spin(R)" television show. This week's show aired Saturday, June 21, 2003, in twelve television markets statewide.

Senator Mike Machado presented Robert Mitchell Robert Mitchell is the name of several different people:
  • Robert C. Mitchell, a politician from Ontario, Canada
  • Robert Mitchell (Prince Edward Island politician), a politician from Prince Edward Island, Canada
 with the California Lottery's Exceptional Educator Award on "The Big Spin(R)" show. Senator Machado explained, "Robert is Robert I, duke of Normandy
Robert I (Robert the Magnificent), d. 1035, duke of Normandy (1027–35); father of William the Conqueror. He is often identified with the legendary Robert the Devil.
 a Social Science teacher who is truly making a difference in the lives of students at Armijo High School History
Armijo High School is a secondary school located in Fairfield, California which first began operation in 1891. This school has been named both a California Distinguished School and a National School of Excellence.

Robert Mitchell is responsible for modernizing the Science Department at Armijo High School. The textbooks and science equipment used to teach students were antiquated, in some cases over 50 years old. So it became Mitchell's mission to update the Science Department. Through his persistence (1) In a CRT, the time a phosphor dot remains illuminated after being energized. Long-persistence phosphors reduce flicker, but generate ghost-like images that linger on screen for a fraction of a second. , the school was awarded an $84,000 grant for instructional material. The students now have the learning tools and technology they need to be prepared for the 21st Century. Mitchell also helped save the school district's Science Fair by quadrupling quad·ru·ple
