11th Annual Festival to Take Place October 28-29 at Texas State Capitol The Texas State Capitol, located in Austin, Texas, is the fourth building to serve as the seat of Texas government. Originally designed by Elijah E. Myers, it was constructed from 1882–88 under the direction of civil engineer Lindsay Walker, and a $75 million underground  

AUSTIN, Texas -- Over 200 of the nation's most accomplished authors will converge on the Texas State Capitol October 28-29 to take part in the 11th annual Texas Book Festival, which will include readings, panels, book signings, and a taste of Texas food and music...

The Book Festival is pleased to continue its collaboration with the University of Texas' Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center is a library and archive at the University of Texas at Austin, USA, specializing in the collection of literary and cultural artifacts from the United States and Europe.  on Thursday, October 26 at 7 pm at the Ransom Center's Prothro Theater and will kick off the Festival weekend with a presentation by Alan Furst (The Foreign Correspondent).

The Bon Appetit Cooking Tent will feature Amy Sedaris (I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence), noted Mexican chef Patricia Quintana as well as Robert St. John (Deep South Parties) and Texas chefs David Bull, Randy Evans, and Melissa Guerra, among others.

The Festival is also continuing last year's introduction of a series of panels and presentations in Spanish with topics ranging from immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important.  to a presentation by MarE a Elena Salinas, the national co-anchor of Univision and the author of Yo Soy la Hija de Mi Padre: Una Vida sin Secretos.

The children's programming will be headlined by Elmo and his puppeteer Kevin Clash, the author of My Life As a Furry Red Monster: What Being Elmo Has Taught Me About Life, Love, and Laughing Out Loud.

"This has become one of the top festivals in the country, and we expect more than 35,000 visitors again this year," said Mary Herman, the Festival's executive director.

"We're building on last year's success but also implementing new programs this year with a number of fascinating authors," Festival literary director Clay Smith said.

The Texas Book Festival was founded in 1996 by Laura Bush and a group of interested volunteers and has been attended by half a million people from across the nation since its inception. The Festival raises money for Texas public libraries and has given more than $1.8 million in grants to fund book collections and literacy programs in libraries throughout the state.

Most Festival events are free to the public and take place in the State Capitol in Austin.
