Senate body briefed on defence, security matters.

RAWALPINDI, November 06, 2009 (Balochistan Times): Standing Committee on Defence & Defence Production visited Joint Staff Headquarters and was briefed on defence and security matters with emphasis on the Higher Defence Organisation of Pakistan, structural profile of the Armed Forces, development perspective of the three services and overview of the status of policy planning and strategic directions to the Armed Forces. They were also briefed on the strategic programme including the salient features of nuclear policy, force development strategy, command and control architecture, arrangements for security of the sensitive assets, as well as the national space program. The briefing was also attended by Lieutenant General (Retired) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General (Retired) Athar Ali Shah, Secretary Defence, Lieutenant General Sardar Mehmood Ali, Director General Joint Staff and other senior officials of Ministry of Defence and Joint Staff Headquarters. Later, during the Question & Answer session which was personally conducted by General Tariq Majid, NI(M), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, the visiting dignitaries had extensive discussions on defence and security matters.
