Senate approves Bill C-23 (Canada).

Ottawa--On June 14, 2000, the Senate passed Bill C-23 (Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act) handily. Senator Lois Wilson, feminist and former moderator of the United Church, speaking in support of the Bill which gives benefits to homosexual "couples" equal those granted to married people, forecast that it's only a matter of time before the question of same-sex "marriage" will challenge the present definition of marriage.

One month later, on July 20, British Columbia's NDP government announced that it is going to court to try to win legal sanction for samesex marriages. According to Attorney-General Andrew Petter, the present denial of marriage licences for same-sex "couples" is contrary to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
