Semtech Launches 11 New High-Speed ECL Logic Solutions.

 logic IC families including new 1:9- and 1:10-output clock driver ICs, differential receivers for multiple-voltage applications, a PECL to CMOS/TTL translator, a 9-bit shift register, and a 4-bit flip flop. All members of the new Semtech ECL Logic series offer equivalent or higher performance and full pin compatibility with competitive standard ECL and PECL logic products currently available.

The 11 new ECL Logic products are the first in a series of devices that Semtech is planning for the ECL and PECL logic markets. Within these markets, high-speed, low-power and low-noise requirements are causing designers of advanced telecommunications, high-end personal computers and workstations to seek clock and receiver upgrades. Semtech designed various members of the ECL Logic family to provide the highest speeds, a range of 3-volt to 5.5-volt operating voltages, on-chip termination and to enable simple socket replacements of similar, older devices without requiring extensive redesigns.

"High-speed, low-power applications are placing a huge demand on designers to include the very fastest and accurate ECL logic devices in their designs," said S. L. Chan, director of marketing for Semtech's High Performance Products group. 111 Clock Drivers

Available now, the SK10/100E111, LVE111, and LVE111E differential clock drivers provide 1:9 output with dependably low-skew specifications for high accuracy. The tested within-device skew has been rated at 30 picoseconds (ps) typical or less for the E111 and 25 ps typical for the LVE111 and LVE111E drivers. Semtech's LVE111 and LVE111E are both ECL and PECL drivers that can be used for clock distribution in 3.3-volt systems when operated in PECL mode. An enable-input capability is featured with the LVE111E. All three ICs come in a space-saving 28-pin PLCC (Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier) A plastic, square, surface mount chip package that contains leads on all four sides. The leads (pins) extend down and back under and into tiny indentations in the housing. See chip package.  package.

9-Bit Shift Register and 4-Bit D Flip-Flop

Along with the 1:9 clock drivers, a 9-bit shift register - the SK10/100E142 - is also now available. Designed for byte-parity applications, the E142 performs serial/parallel in, serial/parallel out operations shifting bits in one direction. The E142 features a 700-MHz minimum shift frequency, an asynchronous Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time. The following are considered asynchronous operations. Two clock source inputs can be used which are fanned out to 10 outputs through an input multiplexer See multiplexor and multiplexing.
