Semtech Brings ESD Protection to High-Speed Applications.

RClamp1502B and RClamp2402B Deliver Low Capacitance to Interfaces Operating at Up to 1GHz

CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq:SMTC SMTC Southern Maine Technical College
SMTC Science/Mathematics/Technology Center (Central Michigan University)
SMTC Saluda Mountain Telephone Company (Knoxville, Tennessee)
SMTC Short-To-Medium Term Control
), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced two new additions to Semtech's RailClamp([R]) family of low capacitance protection devices that provide system designers a new option for adding critical power protection to high-speed lines without the high clamping voltage and high capacitance limitations of competing solutions.

RClamp([R])1502B and RClamp([R])2402B are designed with an ultra-low capacitance of 0.6pF to protect high-speed data lines without signal attenuation Loss of signal power in a transmission.
Attenuation

The reduction in level of a transmitted quantity as a function of a parameter, usually distance. It is applied mainly to acoustic or electromagnetic waves and is expressed as the ratio of power densities.
. The devices also have low clamping voltages to reduce stress on the protected IC that are very susceptible to ESD (1) (Electronic Software Distribution) Distributing new software and upgrades via the network rather than individual installations on each machine. Both devices protect two lines and are targeted for interfaces operating up to 1GHz, such as IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  1394 (FireWire), high-power USB USB

Both devices meet IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission, Geneva, Switzerland, www.iec.ch) An organization that sets international electrical and electronics standards founded in 1906. It is made up of national committees from over 60 countries.

"Designers are turning their attention to high speed design to boost the performance of their products, which is opening up new needs for protection on these circuits," said Tom Dugan, Semtech's Director of Marketing for Protection Products. "We've taken the best technology from our RClamp family - the low-capacitance, and low clamping voltage - and put it into devices that are optimized to give these designers a high performing, space- and cost-efficient protection solution for their high speed interfaces."

The broad array of Semtech's RClamp protection devices give designers a one-stop catalog for all of their low-capacitance protection needs. The family ranges from two lines to eight lines in a variety of packages and for a variety of applications including Gigabit Ethernet, T1/E1, FireWire, USB and others.
