The SC1543 automatically switches to a secondary supply input, should the primary input be removed, making it perfect for Mini PCI An extension of the PCI bus used in portable computers. Designed for peripherals such as modems and network adapters, Mini PCI cards are credit-card sized modules that snap onto the motherboard; they are not inserted into slots like PC Cards. card designs intended for use in notebook computers A laptop computer that weighs in a range from five to seven pounds. Normally, the 3.3V (Vcc) supply is connected to the primary input of the SC1543, with the 3.3VAUX supply connected to the secondary input. The SC1543 defaults the card supply to the primary (3.3V) input under normal conditions
This configuration supports D3cold operation, which requires Mini PCI cards to reduce power consumption in a sleep state while retaining the ability to wake from that sleep state. "The SC1543 is ideal for designers of Mini PCI cards implementing wake-on-ring or wake-on-LAN functionality, which requires the ability to operate in, and wake from, a D3cold state," said Eddie Yeow, director of portable product marketing for Semtech Corp. "The SC1543 integrates power switches and automatic switching logic into a single package, helping designers reduce board space and cost. Use of the SC1543 allows insertion of a Mini PCI card into any system, regardless of the availability of 3.3VAUX at the system connector, guaranteeing Mini PCI card vendors the widest marketability of their product."
