The National Energy Control Agency (ANME) organised, on Thursday in Tunis, a seminar on "Launch of French Development Agency (AFD)'s Credit Line for Energy Control." <p>This reduced-rate direct credit line, worth a total amount of 40 million euros (approximately 73 million dinars), is meant to co-finance projects in matters of energy efficiency and renewable energies Renewable energy utilizes natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat, which are naturally replenished. Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, and hydroelectricity to biomass and biofuels for transportation. .

This French credit line supports the four-yearly energy control programme (2008-2011) aimed to bring down by 20% the demand in primary energy by 2011, i.e. a reduction of about 2 million Tonnes Oil Equivalent (TOE).

In addition to AFD, the European Union European Union (EU), name given since the ratification (Nov., 1993) of the Treaty of European Union, or Maastricht Treaty, to the

European Community
 provides an additional bonus under the form of donations and three Tunisian banks, namely BIAT BIAT Banque Internationale Arabe de Tunisie (Tunisian bank)
BIAT British Institute of Architectural Technologists
BIAT Brain Injury Association of Tennessee
BIAT Burn-In/Aging Tester
, BT and UBCI are to contribute in funding the investment.

Opening the seminar, secretary of state in charge of renewable energies and food-processing industries Abdelaziz RassEoa said that Tunisia is fully involved in a policy of energy control and renewable energies utilisation, in a world juncture junc·ture

Mr. RassEoa pointed out that Tunisia is keen on raising the share of renewable energies in the total energy consumption at the rate of 13% by 2011.
