Specifically, look to see when the tank was last fired or the M256 recoil mechanism was exercised.

If neither has happened in the last six months, exercise it now. The preferred methods of exercising the recoil mechanism are:

1. Firing the main gun.

2. Using the gun mount exerciser, NSN NSN National Stock Number
NSN Nokia Siemens Networks
NSN National Storytelling Network
NSN NATO Stock Number
NSN New Substances Notification (CEPA)
NSN National Student Number (NZ)
NSN Never Say Never
 4933-01-346-1791.

3. Using the M3 oil pump, NSN 4933-00-712-2378.

If you don't exercise the recoil mechanism every six months like it says in TB 9-1000-234-13, Exercising of Recoil Mechanisms and Equilibrators, the gun mount seats are guaranteed to fail.
