Under the terms of the contract, Semandex(tm) will license its commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) NetLink products and will provide engineering services to SPAWAR and other DoD and federal agencies to support SPAWAR's aXiom Web Portal See portal. . The contract features a base year valued at $2.6 million, as well as four one-year options, with a total value of $10 million.

Built using Semandex' NetLink products, the aXiom Web Portal provides a joint capability to access relevant global information required for maintaining situational awareness Situation awareness or situational awareness [1] (SA) is the mental representation and understanding of objects, events, people, system states, interactions, environmental conditions, and other situation-specific factors affecting human performance in , and planning and execution of operations. NetLink enables aXiom to enhance the planning process and promote the rapid dissemination of real and near-real-time information to those that need to know, including members of other DoD branches and several national agencies.

"NetLink is a wide-area semantically enabled information integration network that enables users to connect to data sources distributed around the globe, regardless of how they are formatted or where they reside," says Dr. Daniel Reininger, President & CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Semandex.

Unlike traditional approaches to communities, aXiom is implemented as highly net-centric set of services, with local nodes and remote nodes collaborating to build paths for sharing data and information. Each participating agency in the community offers its data through adaptors connected to an aXiom node. The approach allows data to remain under the control of the producer and be released only according to according to

the business rules of that producer. It is a substantial improvement over a "bucket" approach, which gathers links in a common place (such as a search engine), introducing delays so information may already be stale before it has even reached the bucket.

Users access aXiom through a Portal, using either a Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  or an existing client application that has been integrated into the aXiom framework. Through the access portal, users can issue queries, receive and display responses, and subscribe to real-time data feeds.

Under the terms of the contract, Semandex will also provide engineering services and training to SPAWAR and its customers to assist them in integrating their data sources and applications to aXiom.
