These 10 papers, on various aspects of stochastic processes and statistics, originally appeared in the journal Sugaku over the past few years. They would ordinarily have been translated and published in The Society's journal Sugaku Expositions, but were deemed timely enough to speed up their appearance in English by means of this volume. Among the topics are the volume of tubes and distribution of the maxima of Gaussian random fields, the problem of optimal transportation as stochastic mechanics, the analysis of square contingency tables in statistics, the structure of the higher order asymptotic theory of statistical estimation, and basic theory and current issues regarding actuarial mathematics in Japan. There is no index.
