 schools are in many ways unaffected by the Brown decision of 1954 ("Segregated Schools: Shame of the City," Gotham Gazette The Gotham Gazette is a publication of the Citizens Union Foundation of the City of New York, a governance watchdog group focusing on issues confronting New York City. , January 16, 2006).

A report from The Civil Rights Project of Harvard University describes "Racial Transformation and the Changing Nature of Segregation" by examining the segregation changes over the last decade (1991-2003) as well as those changes over the much longer period of 1954 to 2003.
