Sega Genesis 32X price comes down to $99.
"We've been able to cost-reduce 32X, keeping it the most affordable system for 32-bit gaming on the market," said Chrissie Huneke Kremer, director of marketing, Genesis 32X. "The low price, combined with our strong lineup of fall titles, makes the 32X a must-have for this holiday season."
Sega tested the $99 price point for Genesis 32X over the past four weeks. "Our early sales reports show that the $99 price point has resulted in an increase in Genesis 32X sales in our top markets," added Kremer. "And we expect to see a more significant increase as more of our fall titles roll out."
One of the most popular fighting arcade hits ever, "Virtua Fighter" will make its way onto the 32X on Oct. 10. "VF" for 32X has all the original characters, each of which have all original 700 moves. The 32X version also contains special features not found on any other system, such as a special tournament mode, seven camera angles, a victory replay feature that covers the entire match, not just the K.O., and a clothing customization feature. Sega plans a significant "VF" advertising campaign starting Oct. 3 nationwide.
Sega is currently pre-selling Virtua Fighter Training Kits, which contain the necessities every VF master will need: a videotape highlighting strategy moves, a "VF" T-shirt and a $20 coupon good toward a copy of "VF" on 32X.
Other hot titles coming down the pike are "Kolibri," a beautiful journey where a high-flying, sharp-shooting hummingbird must save the planet from an evil asteroid's deadly emissions; "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy," the only "Star Trek" flight simulator on any Sega platform, where Starfleet Academy cadets grow to become captains as they learn to handle their crew and their enemies; and "Spiderman: Web of Fire," featuring 3-D SGI-rendered graphics with "Motion Capture Animation."
Other titles set for this fall include "Blackthorne," "T-MEK" and "Primal Rage."
The two Genesis 32X bundle packs, one with "Doom" and the other with "Star Wars Arcade," were also price-reduced and will retail for about $139.
