First Software Industry Medical Computer Scientist Appointed to

Position Underscores SeeBeyond's Leadership in Healthcare

SeeBeyond (Nasdaq:SBYN), provider of the world's first fully integrated platform for the development and deployment of composite applications, today announced the appointment of its Director of Healthcare for Central Europe Central Europe is the region lying between the variously and vaguely defined areas of Eastern and Western Europe. In addition, Northern, Southern and Southeastern Europe may variously delimit or overlap into Central Europe. , Dr. Gunter Steyer, as the new President of the German Association of Medical Scientists -- Bundesverband Medizinischer Informatiker (BVMI BVMI Berufsverband Medizinischer Informatiker eV (Heidelberg, Germany) ). With this January 2004 honorary appointment, Dr. Steyer becomes the first medical computer scientist from the software industry to become chairman of the association.

During his two-year term as President of the BVMI, Dr. Steyer plans to focus on the advancement of the Association's role in establishing a telematics infrastructure in the healthcare sector. This includes support of the "Electronic Health Card" project that is to be introduced in 2006, and is currently being developed by the project consortium entitled "bIT4health" (members include IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. Additional BVMI priorities include efforts to improve the regulatory framework for the supply of medical information, as well as further expansion of the position and presence of the overall organization. In support of this effort, BVMI will leverage events and conventions such as the KIS Conference in Mannheim and Telemed 2004 to communicate its goals.
