Beautiful Losers, an exhibition of art curated by Aaron Rose and Christian Strike, opened in San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The inclusion of the Simparch bowl and free skating in the museum confines led to some provocative interactions. Suspicious activities included a bit of this and/or that: Steve Badgett and Matt Lynch's denial that they knew anything about any of the transgressions; the film crew of Tobin Yelland documenting his own piece; Tommy Guerrero playing for his new baby; Kevin Ancell getting paid to "restore" Mark Gonzales' gigantic art Sphinx; Jim Thiebaud serving as a civic arts activist; Luke Ogden the proper installation of a Talldog piece; Andre the Giant and Shepard Fairey plotting on how to thwart their stalkers; Merry Karnowski and Sandy Bodecker watching Amaze and Twist wreck the window display using an animatronic replicant of Josh; the SFPD on duty to monitor Jamie O'Shea's fifth expulsion from the area; Nike, Adidas and Vans all sponsoring the same show; Ed Templeton getting locked inside of the complex with the lights turned off; Larry Clark's and Richardson's pole and hole technology; institution director Rene De Guzman's Armani suited roll-in; Spike Jonze's, Thomas Campbell's and Harmony Korine's films and Dan Drehobl's, Jeffrey Deitch's, Brian Coons', Claire Rojas' and Trujillo's general disorderly conduct. The YBC is seeking volunteer skater monitors. The payoff is access to after-hours sessions.
