Secy. Johanns gives vision for rural America.


"This is an exciting time to be involved in America's rural policies," Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns Michael Owen Johanns (born June 18, 1950) is an American Republican politician. A former Governor of Nebraska, he served as the 28th U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. He was the fourth Nebraskan to hold the position.  told more than 200 rural development leaders from across the country at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Kellogg Foundation, philanthropic institution established (1930) at Battle Creek, Mich., by food manufacturer W. K. Kellogg (1860–1951). Kellogg eventually gave the institution a total of $47 million, and by 1990 its endowment had increased to more than $3.  Seminar, "The State of 21st Century Rural America: Implications for Policy and Practice," March 20-22, 2005, in Washington, D.C. The seminar's program included group discussions focusing on rural economic development, education, rural philanthropy philanthropy, the spirit of active goodwill toward others as demonstrated in efforts to promote their welfare. The term is often used interchangeably with charity.  and the rural/ urban continuum, community building, securing resources and leveraging change. W.K. Kellogg Foundation is hosting six seminars in 2005 to mark its 75th Anniversary year.
