Security of civilian population in South Waziristan during military operation , responsibility of Government, security forces: United Nation.

ISLAMABAD, November 05, 2009 (Frontier Star): UN Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Mogwanja has said safety and security of civilian population during ongoing military operation in South Waziristan is responsibility of government and security forces adding UN has no access to troubled areas therefore, it is unable to take a close review of the situation. UN Humanitarian Coordinator said this while giving a press briefing here Thursday with reference to ongoing relief activities for the affectees of ongoing military operation in Swat. He told confirmation has been made of 22600 families out of 46000 families so far which had been shifted from South Waziristan. However registration process was underway, he pointed out. The particulars were being recorded in six registration centres at Dera Ismail Khan and Tank, he added. The entire responsibility of screening rested with local authorities from security point of view, he underlined. "We will make appeal to international community to provide more funds to sustain relief activities in 2010", he told. About the latest situation of Malakand and Swat affectees he said 1.6 million out of 2.7 million who had shifted from Swat and Malakand had returned to their homes. Only the food and health facilities were being provided due to security situation. To a question he said interior ministry despite deadline of 10 days had not provided inquiry report with respect to suicide attack on World Food Program office.
