Security firm sets sight on Holtsville building.

Carco Group, Inc., a multinational fraud detection company, has signed a long-term lease for 24,000 s/f at 5000 Corporate Drive in Holtsville, N.Y., in a deal arranged by Paragon Group LLC.

The privately held company, which provides homeland security services to Fortune 1000 companies, including background screening, investigative and security services, will move in November into what is now raw space that once had been slated for expansion of the regional processing center of the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS, which shut down part of its operations in January, 2004, vacated 135,000 s/f of the 248,000 s/f building and continues to occupy 60,000 s/f.

"The abundance of parking and the quality of the building made this an attractive property," said Paragon principal Jeffrey Nemshin, who along with Paragon's Gerald Widen, negotiated the lease on behalf of Carco. The owner, Wells Real Estate Investment Trust, was represented by Joseph Kondrake, of CB Richard Ellis.

The two-story building, constructed in 2000, contains 238,400 s/f of space, along with 1,875 parking spaces. A separate 9,000 s/f daycare facility is located less than a mile from the Long Island Expressway.
