SecureLogix Launches ETM System Version 4.0; Introduces TeleVPN Call Shield, World's First Circuit-Switched VPN.

Business Editors; Telecommunications and High-Tech Writers

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 2002

SecureLogix Corporation announced the immediate availability of its latest version of the ETM (database) ETM - An active DBMS from the University of Karlsruhe. (R) (Enterprise Telephony Management) System, version 4.0, as well as the addition of two new applications to the ETM product suite -- AAA AAA: see American Automobile Association.

(Triple A) A common single-cell battery used in a myriad of electronic devices of all variety. Like its double A (AA) cousin, it provides 1.5 volts of DC power. When used in series, the voltage is multiplied.
Services for TeleWall(R) Telecom Firewall, available now, and TeleVPN(R) Call Shield, available in Q1 of 2003.

The ETM System employs a family of intelligent communications appliances and a growing suite of bundled applications in a centrally managed architecture. Enhancements made to version 4.0 include support for Oracle 9i Standard or Enterprise Edition of the relational database relational database

software, as well as design enhancements to improve performance by a factor of ten.

Strong Authentication, Authorization and Accounting for

TeleWall(R) Firewall

AAA Services for TeleWall Firewall provides authentication, authorization and accounting of remote dial-in users, controlled by an appliance-based authentication server A device used in network access control. It stores the usernames and passwords that identify the clients logging in, or it may hold the algorithms for token access (see authentication token).  in concert with the TeleWall Telecom Firewall. The authentication server is known as the ETM 1000 AAA Server (Authentication Authorization Accounting server) A network server used for access control. Authentication identifies the user. Authorization implements policies that determine which resources and services a valid user may access.  Appliance. It is a completely managed appliance, as are all ETM Platform appliances. The AAA Server prompts the user for a user ID, PIN code and the destination number they wish to dial. The AAA Server then authorizes the remote user by sending an authorization token to the TeleWall Firewall. This level of integration and control allows the telecom manager to establish security rules, which block any unauthorized call attempt to establish connections with authorized modems within the enterprise. The unique security benefit of this capability is to eliminate war dialing War dialing or wardialing is a method of automatically scanning telephone numbers using a modem, usually dialing every telephone number in a local area to find where computers or fax machines are available, then attempting to access them by guessing passwords.  as a threat to the organization. War dialers are rejected by the firewall immediately, so they never have an opportunity to discover the authorized modems and exploit them. Authorized modems become invisible behind the TeleWall Firewall.

With the addition of AAA Services for TeleWall Firewall, SecureLogix can now claim absolute protection of both authorized as well as unauthorized modems, completely locking down the perimeter of the enterprise telecommunications network A telecommunications network is a of telecommunications links and nodes arranged so that messages may be passed from one part of the network to another over multiple links and through various nodes. . While there are adjacent technologies in the telecom market that have some of the features of AAA, none of them are centrally managed, much less tightly integrated with a telecom firewall. No one else in the market today can eliminate war dialing as a threat to the organization like SecureLogix can.

TeleVPN(R) Call Shield Emerges to Replace Expensive Point

Solutions

TeleVPN Call Shield provides enterprise-wide call confidentiality of communications over the otherwise un-trusted Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S. ). The TeleVPN Application incorporates strong, policy-based, 3DES encryption of voice, fax and modem calls across the distributed enterprise. Analogous to IP-based VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  technologies that enable secure data communications data communications, application of telecommunications technology to the problem of transmitting data, especially to, from, or between computers. In popular usage, it is said that data communications make it possible for one computer to "talk" with another.  through the public and equally un-trusted Internet, TeleVPN Call Shield provides secure voice, fax and modem communications through the PSTN. Confidential enterprise communications are critical to the security and operations of many distributed and multi-national corporations, military installations, financial institutions, government agencies and healthcare organizations subject to confidentiality mandates such as the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996, Public Law 104-191) Also known as the "Kennedy-Kassebaum Act," this U.S. law protects employees' health insurance coverage when they change or lose their jobs (Title I) and provides standards for patient health,  (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1996.

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) website, Title I of HIPAA protects health insurance coverage for workers and their families when
of 1996). Therefore, users of the PSTN, the largest and most widely used public communications network The transmission channels interconnecting all client and server stations as well as all supporting hardware and software.  in the world, are subject to both lawful and unlawful intercepts, theft, and/or corruption of their communications, and are constantly in jeopardy of breaching that confidentiality.

Existing voice and fax encryption solutions, like secure telephone and fax units, require separately deployed, end-to-end devices that reside at each individual transmitting and receiving desktop unit. These existing solutions are expensive and are neither scalable across the enterprise, remotely manageable, nor policy-based (that is, they do not allow automated policies to encrypt PSTN transmissions on a per-call basis). In contrast, TeleVPN Call Shield resides on the fully remotely managed ETM System and enables site-to-site encryption at the edge of the enterprise telephone network, from PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN).  to PBX. This scalable, remotely managed, policy-based encryption requires no end-user interaction, is completely transparent to the sending and receiving parties, and has no perceptible impact on voice quality.

Because it resides on the PBX-independent ETM Platform, the TeleVPN Application is transparent to the customer's existing telephony network, therefore requiring no change, upgrade or reconfiguration of the customer's legacy voice systems or PRI PRI: see Institutional Revolutionary party.

phone services. The TeleVPN Call Shield, available in Q1 of 2003, is centrally managed throughout a distributed enterprise from one computer console. It can be deployed quickly to provide encryption services for even the largest organizations. Due to site-to-site scalability, organizations can protect tens of thousands of handsets, fax systems or modem users at a fraction of the cost of installing multiple desktop-to-desktop secure phones or fax units.

The ETM(R) System and Applications Suite

The ETM System employs a family of intelligent communications appliances and a growing suite of bundled applications in a centrally managed architecture. The ETM appliances are PBX-independent, centrally managed platforms that IP-enable any private voice network to address longstanding telecom security and management issues. The bundled applications suite, introduced with ETM System version 3.0, includes the TeleWall Telecom Firewall, TeleAudit(R) Usage Manager and the TeleView(tm) Infrastructure Manager.

The award-winning TeleWall Telecom Firewall software detects, logs, alerts and blocks unauthorized modem, fax, voice or video traffic in real time. Its patented technology controls all modem activity across the enterprise through a rules-based security policy engine and distinguishes transmissions by call type, thereby closing the hacker's "Last Big Back Door" into the internal data network.

The TeleAudit Usage Manager enables enterprise-wide, consolidated reporting on all call detail data captured on voice, fax, modem, video and STU-III STU-III Secure Telephone Unit III (US government)  transmissions at one management console A terminal or workstation used to monitor and control a network. See Microsoft Management Console. . Call detail records, including call type, are logged into a relational database to enable ready access to automated or fully customizable reports.

TeleView Infrastructure Manager provides enterprise-wide visibility and control of the voice infrastructure, including real-time monitoring of the health and status of all voice trunks and managed telephony systems at one management console.
