Secularism hits snag. (News in Brief: Canada).Toronto--The Toronto Star's front page on December 24, 2002, read: "Merry Christmas." So did the coloured front page drawing in the National Post. The Toronto Sun's Donato cartoon cartoon [Ital., cartone=paper], either of two types of drawings: in the fine arts, a preliminary sketch for a more complete work; in journalism, a humorous or satirical drawing. on the editorial page had "Happy Holidays and Season's Greetings" crossed out, with a large "Merry Christmas" reaffirmed underneath. Only the Globe and Mail wished its readers "Season's Greetings." Among the leading promoters of Happy Holidays was the American owned Gap clothing store and the federal government agency, The Mint. The Mint promoted "Twelve Days of Giving" advertisements on television, while the Gap instructed its employees to wish customers "Happy Holidays". But then it repented and returned to the old routine. One wonders how few coins the Mint sold during its "twelve days of giving." In Hamilton, Mayor Bob Wade exhibited a double standard in supporting the alteration Modification; changing a thing without obliterating it.
