A U.S. District Court judge in Seattle Seattle (sēăt`əl), city (1990 pop. 516,259), seat of King co., W Wash., built on seven hills, between Elliott Bay of Puget Sound and Lake Washington; inc. 1869. quashes a subpoena subpoena (səpē`nə) [Lat.,=under penalty], in law, an order to a witness to appear before a court. A subpoena ad testificandum [Lat. that sought the identities of 23 people who had posted on the Silicon Investor online financial bulletin board. TheMart.com said that the posters had somehow engaged in manipulation of the company's stock price.
