SECONDARY BLASTING

Working in conjunction with Inco Limited, Nordex Explosives Ltd. of Kirkland Lake has developed a pre-assembled secondary blasting charge which it claims saves time in placing charges and hooking up the blast. In addition, the cone-shaped design directs the blast into the boulder with a minimum of energy escaping in any other direction, hence avoiding damage to underground installations such as air lines, water pipes and support screens. Single cones, made of white plastic, have been used on large boulders to replace several secondary charges, Nordex says.
