Second woman ordained in Ethiopia. (News).The ordination of Mrs. Hirut Megersa, August 6, 2000, brought to two the number of ordained or·dain tr.v. or·dained, or·dain·ing, or·dains 1. a. To invest with ministerial or priestly authority; confer holy orders on. b. To authorize as a rabbi. 2. women pastors in the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY; also called Mekane Yesus Church) is a Christian denomination in Ethiopia. It was created in 1959 with the merger of Lutheran and other congregations established by missionary work in that country. (EECMY EECMY Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus ). Rev. Megersa graduated from the Mekane Yesus Theological Seminary with a diploma in 1979. As the women's ordination was not focused on until very recently, Megersa had to fall behind her male col-leagues in ordination for over 21 years. During this time she served as evangelist, preacher and secretary for Christian women at parish level coordinating the work of more than 18 congregations. She holds an advanced diploma in church management and Christian education from the University of Birmingham Due to Birmingham's role as a centre of light engineering, the university traditionally had a special focus on science, engineering and commerce, as well as coal mining. It now teaches a full range of academic subjects and has five-star rating for teaching and research in several , United Kingdom. Rev. Megersa is currently preparing for her masters in pastoral counseling. She is married to Rev. Benti Jalleta and they have two sons and a daughter. |
