Sec regs could limit tax services to audit clients. (News & Trends).


The Securities and Exchange Commission has issued proposed regs that could limit the ability of CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000.  firms to provide tax services to their audit clients.

The regs would revise the SEC's guidelines guidelines,

 an accounting firm's independence.

The regs:

* Define the circumstances CIRCUMSTANCES, evidence. The particulars which accompany a fact.
     2. The facts proved are either possible or impossible, ordinary and probable, or extraordinary and improbable, recent or ancient; they may have happened near us, or afar off; they are public or
 whereby an issuers audit committee can and should pre-approve all audit and allowable non-audit services provided to the issuer by the auditor of an issuer's financial statements;

* Prohibit pro·hib·it

 audit engagement team partners from providing audit services to the issuer for more than five consecutive years;

* Prohibit an accounting firm from auditing an issuer's financial statements if certain members of management of that issuer had been members of the accounting firm's audit engagement team within the one-year period preceding the start of audit procedures; and

* Require the auditor of an issuer's financial statements to report certain matters to the issuer's audit committee, including "critical" accounting policies used by the issuer.

Also, the SEC is proposing rules defining an accountant as not being independent from an audit client if any partner, principal or shareholder of the accounting firm who is a member of the engagement team received compensation based on any service provided or sold to that client other than audit, review and attest To solemnly declare verbally or in writing that a particular document or testimony about an event is a true and accurate representation of the facts; to bear witness to. To formally certify by a signature that the signer has been present at the execution of a particular writing so as  services.
