Seattle neighborhoods endorse opponents of third runway.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 1996--The Seattle Community Council Federation, a coalition of Seattle neighborhoods, today announced support for the Washington Alliance of Taxpayers and Travelers (WATT), a group opposed to building a third runway runway: see airport.  at Sea-Tac Airport.

The federation is made up of 28 member neighborhoods covering the Seattle city limits from Haller Lake north of the city to Seward Park Seward Park may refer to:
  • Seward Park (Manhattan), a park on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, named after William H. Seward
  • Seward Park Housing Corporation, the nearby housing cooperative
  • Seward Park (Seattle), a park in Seattle, Washington
 in south Seattle.

"Many Seattle residents recognize that the third runway project is a mistake not only because of the cost and the negative impacts but because it won't do what the Port says it will -- provide a usable USable is a special idea contest to transfer US American ideas into practice in Germany. However, the proposed third runway still would not meet FAA regulations for side-by-side simultaneous landings in bad weather.

WATT chair Beth Means says the entire Puget Sound Puget Sound (py`jĕt), arm of the Pacific Ocean, NW Wash., connected with the Pacific by Juan de Fuca Strait, entered through the Admiralty Inlet and extending in two arms c.  region is beginning to wake up to the fact that the Port cannot be trusted to tell the truth about the impacts of a third runway.

"You can bet that every taxpayer in the Seattle area will be paying dearly for this project," Means said. "The price tag just keeps going up and the project hasn't even been approved yet."

"The third runway project is fool's money," said Maillot. "And we absolutely oppose it."

WATT cites cost and size of the project as its main opposition points and has gathered the support of hundreds of western Washington residents as well as public officials and business owners throughout the region.
