SearchGold Initiates Drilling on its Quebec Gold Properties.MONTREAL Montreal (mŏn'trēôl`), Fr. Most commonly using wireline and core bits with diamond encrusted matrix. To drill holes to max depths of twelve thousand feet, for the recovery of core used in verifying mineral program which will target its two most advanced Quebec gold properties, Lac Chevrier and Lac Fortune West. The properties are located in renowned gold camps and offer good potential for new discoveries. High priority targets have been identified on both properties. A 4,500 m diamond drilling program initiated in early January will test in priority the Vein # 3 sector on the Lac Chevrier property (surface grades of up to 92,05 g/t Au) and the South King Zone on the Lac Fortune West property (mineralized min·er·al·ize v. min·er·al·ized, min·er·al·iz·ing, min·er·al·iz·es v.tr. 1. Lac Chevrier property This property is located in the Belleterre area, 5 km west of the Belleterre Mine which operated from 1936 to 1959 and produced over 960,000 ounces of gold form ore grading an average of 13,7 g/t Au. It underwent sporadic sporadic /spo·rad·ic/ (spo-rad´ic) occurring singly; widely scattered; not epidemic or endemic. spo·rad·ic or spo·rad·i·cal adj. 1. Geophysical surveys may use a great variety of sensing instruments, and data may be collected from above or below the Earth's surface or from aerial or marine platforms. . Gold mineralization on the property has been identified in two sectors with reported surface grades up to 213,99 g/t Au. Highlights of both sectors are reported below. Vein # 3 sector
- The Vein # 3 sector is located in the eastern part of the property
and grades of up to 92,05 g/t Au from surface rock sampling have
been reported. The sulfide mineralogy of Vein # 3 is very similar
to that of the Belleterre mine and the down dip extension of the
mineralization has been demonstrated by shallow, very limited,
previous drilling with grades of up to 4,90 g/t over 1,58 m at a
vertical depth of 15 m.
- Three sub parallel auriferous quartz veins are present on surface
near the contact with a major tonalite stock. They have individual
widths of up to 60 cm and are, from north to south :
Vein # 3 North (grades of up to 1,70 g/t Au),
Vein # 3 (grades of up to 92,05 g/t Au),
Vein # 3 South (grades of up to 46,81 g/t Au).
- A 20 m wide quartz-bearing zone associated with late-stage
tectonic activity was uncovered 100 m west of Vein # 3 during
SearchGold's 2004 stripping program. This zone remains open
towards the northwest and has never been tested at depth. Given
the observed vein density, it offers good volume potential and the
veins have been found to be anomalous in gold content.
Road cut / Boudrias sector
- The road cut / Boudrias sector is located in the western part of
the property and grades of up to 213,99 g/t Au from surface rock
sampling have been reported. The down dip extension of the
mineralization has been demonstrated by previous drilling with a
reported intersection of 0,75 g/t over 1,95 m at a vertical depth
of 30 m.
Lac Fortune West property
This property is strategically located 25 km west of Rouyn Noranda,
Quebec, Canada. It sits just 2 km south of the Francoeur Gold Mine
and 15 km east of the former Kerr Addison Mine, which produced 10
million ounces of gold.
A compilation of previous diamond drilling in the eastern part of the
property established the presence of a new mineralized zone, named
"South King Zone", which displays several encouraging geological
features that have retained SearchGold's attention, namely :
- Presence of high grade mineralization (14,36 g/t Au over 1,80 m in
hole LF-01-16) within a broader halo of lower grade auriferous
impregnation associated with a felsic intrusive (up to 1,21 g/t Au
over 11,37 m in hole LF-04-19).
- Proximity and similarity in geological context with Francoeur
orebody : mineralization hosted at an andesite - gabbro
lithological contact in close spatial association with an altered
felsic intrusive ; the South King zone is located 1,900 m south-
east of the Francoeur # 3 orebody.
SearchGold's management looks forward to this drill program as both properties offer good potential which could be maximized given the continued strength in the price of gold. Moreover, both properties have direct road access and, being located in renowned gold camps, high quality mining services are readily available for mine development in the event of discoveries warranting production.
