Seagate Software Announces New Release of Network Management Suite; Seagate Desktop Management Suite 2.0 Adds Virus Control, Support for Windows NT 4.0 and More.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 1996--Seagate Software, Network and Systems Management Group, today announced significant additions to their comprehensive suite of integrated network A network that supports both data and voice and/or different networking protocols. See converged network and new public network.  and systems management applications designed to simplify automated inventory management, software distribution, remote control and virus protection of networked servers and workstations. Announcement highlights include the addition of Seagate Virus Control (announced today in a separate release), an enhanced inventory component, robust remote-control functionality and advanced integration within the suite. In addition, Seagate Desktop Management Suite (DMS (1) (Document Management System) See document management.

.

Unlike other packages that are available only as monolithic product suites, the Seagate DMS components are available as part of an integrated suite or as powerful standalone solutions, including:

-- Seagate WinLAND 3.0 - Automated 32-bit network inventory and asset management -- Seagate WinINSTALL 5.1 - Effortless 16 and 32-bit software distribution -- Seagate Virus Control 3.5 - Advanced 16 and 32-bit virus control -- Proxy 2.0 - 16 and 32-bit network remote control

"The initial version of our Desktop Management Suite was quickly recognized and awarded for its ability to effectively fulfill our customers' needs," said Tom Yerkes, president of the Network and Systems Management Group. "The new suite demonstrates our continued commitment to satisfying these needs while offering an even higher level of functionality and integration."

Enhanced Suite Integration: Seagate DMS

DMS 2.0 tightly integrates its applications to provide advanced capabilities unavailable in comparable suites. With the new DMS 2.0, a network administrator can use WinLAND to perform workstation and server inventories, then activate WinINSTALL 5.1 directly from the WinLAND console to electronically distribute software to systems that require updates. WinLAND can also collect and review all WinINSTALL installation activities from an enhanced tool bar and direct WinINSTALL's file rollback capability to automatically restore system files such as a CONFIG.SYS to a previous version.

In addition, WinLAND v3.0 integrates with the new Seagate Virus Control option. Virus Control can be activated from the Seagate Toolbar A row or column of on-screen buttons used to activate functions in the application. Many toolbars are customizable, letting you add and delete buttons as required. Toolbars may be fixed in position or may float, which means they can be dragged to a more convenient location in the  and generates detailed, centralized report. Proxy 2.0 can, then, be automatically launched from within WinLAND to provide immediate remote control of any server or workstation, and virus disinfection disinfection,

Beyond Inventory: Seagate WinLAND v3.0

Beyond its new integration capabilities, the new WinLAND possesses native collection agents for Windows, Windows for Workgroups A version of Windows 3.1 introduced in 1992 that added peer-to-peer networking. See Windows.

WinLAND's ability to manage popular network servers includes Windows NT 4.0, Windows NT Server, NetWare 3.x and 4.x with workstation inventory capabilities that are NOS independent. In addition, WinLAND now conducts inventory of Apple Macintosh server and workstations for software and hardware information collection, including AppleTalk, ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) A low-speed serial bus for connecting keyboards, mice and other input devices on Apple IIgs and Macintosh computers. Military Strength Virus Control: Seagate Virus Control

In response to the growing strength and prevalence of computer virus infection Seagate Virus Control is being introduced today as a proactive anti-virus protection option. Seagate Virus Control is the first product to develop a proactive approach towards effective virus prevention and control to include polymorphic viruses. Utilizing built-in statistical analysis and artificial intelligence called Behavior Blocker technology, Seagate Virus Control perform dynamic code analysis to determine the probability that particular behavior sequences within files are those of a virus and block them before they damage the system, its applications or its data. (For complete details see Seagate Virus Control release announced today)

Full-Featured Remote Control

The new Proxy 2.0 remote control module adds TCP/IP support to its current IP protocol compatibility and now supports remote control of Windows 95 clients. In order to reduce the memory utilization of systems that will be operated remotely, Proxy no longer requires a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) Refers to a program that remains in memory when the user exits it in order that it be immediately available at the press of a hotkey.  be loaded on target systems.
