Seagate Crystal Reports to Ship in Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0; Seagate Software and Microsoft Announce Partnership to Provide Web Log Analysis and Database Publishing in Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0.


VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 1996-- Seagate Software, Information Management Group (IMG IMG International medical graduate, see there ), a world leader in business intelligence software, and Microsoft Corporation today announced plans to integrate a special version of Seagate Crystal Reports 4.5 in the upcoming Microsoft Internet Information Server See IIS.

 3.0 (IIS (Internet Information Services) Microsoft's Web server. IIS runs under the server versions of Windows, adding HTTP server capability to the Windows operating system. 3.0).

This bundle, which includes the Crystal Report Designer and the Crystal Report Engine, adds ad hoc Web log analysis capability to Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0, allowing users to create graphical reports on-the-fly to analyze their Web site traffic. In addition, it allows Web application developers to publish Microsoft SQL Server A relational DBMS from Microsoft that is a major component of the Windows Server System. It is Microsoft's high-end client/server database and is closely integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio and the Microsoft Office System.  and Microsoft Access database information to HTML HTML

The Seagate Crystal Reports shipping in Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0 accesses standard NCSA (1) (National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Urbana-Champaign, IL, www.ncsa.uiuc.edu) A high-performance computing facility located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  log files as well as Microsoft's standard Web log file format, plus Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server databases. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0 will also ship with a set of six pre-designed Web log analysis reports from Seagate Software. These provide a starting point for customers and include: analysis of Web site activity by Day of the Week; Hour of the Day; Most Accessed Directories; Most Requested Pages; Top Downloaded File Types and Sites; and Server Errors. Customers can choose the range of data accessed and the location of the data.

Separate from this bundle, Seagate Software announced last month plans to deliver a Crystal Reports ActiveX Server Component A server-side software module constructed as an ActiveX component that is stored on a Windows client/server system or a Windows Web site. On a Web site, ActiveX Server Components can be called from Active Server Pages.  for the Microsoft Active Server Platform, a key technology shipping in Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0. This component works with Seagate Crystal Reports Professional, taking full advantage of Microsoft's ActiveX server framework technology to provide Web developers with many report options for their Web applications. It is expected to include over 60 properties for designing interactive database reports for Active Server Pages. It will also allow developers to re-use existing Seagate Crystal Reports files on the Internet Information Server See IIS.
