The world leader in digital video server systems, SeaChange International, Inc. (Nasdaq:SEAC SEAC Student Environmental Action Coalition

) arrives at Streaming Media West 2000 with products and alliances in support of the multi-billion dollar streaming market. SeaChange's product demonstrations include applications in video-on-demand entertainment and education incorporating fault-resilient, broadcast-quality video Internet protocol (IP) streams.

"SeaChange offers a data-independent streaming platform and applications that will speed the emergence of IP telephony, high-speed web browsing, and streaming video as broadly viable businesses," said Ed Delaney, vice president of marketing and business development, SeaChange International. "For the IP opportunity, we're applying the full experience of deploying thousands of video servers for the television industry."

Announced at Streaming Media West, SeaChange has joined the newly founded Internet Streaming Media Alliance The Internet Streaming Media Alliance (ISMA) was Founded in December 2000, by Apple Computer, Cisco Systems, IBM, Kasenna, Philips, and Sun Microsystems. It is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to accelerate the market adoption of open standards for streaming and  (ISMA ISMA

SeaChange supports a number of television revenue businesses with its digital video server systems. The vast majority of the U.S. cable advertising market runs on SeaChange's Spot digital ad insertion system. The SeaChange Broadcast MediaCluster is deployed in hundreds of television operations, including some of the world's largest multichannel Using two or more paths for transmission or processing. It can refer to a variety of architectures including (1) multiple I/O channels between the CPU and peripheral devices, (2) multiple wires in a cable, (3) multiple "logical" channels within a single wire or fiber or (4) multiple  facilities. With its particular emphasis on broadband television video-on-demand, SeaChange's ITV (1) See interactive TV.

Delaney continued: "We are very pleased to make a steadfast commitment to the streaming industry by collaborating with ISMA. As we've discovered via our activity with the key trade organizations in broadcast and cable television, these alliances give a necessary boost for the overall success of the industry."

Among ISMA's primary goals is the development of initial specifications for MPEG-4 over IP. At Streaming Media West, SeaChange demonstrates simultaneous MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video streaming to PCs with video content and integrated entertainment and education VOD See video-on-demand.

VIP Streamer provides the unparalleled fault-resilience and scalability of SeaChange's patented MediaCluster video server architecture, with its unique "single video file copy" advantages.

Integration of Windows Media Technologies See Windows Media.  with SeaChange products is part of an ongoing joint development agreement with Microsoft and is supported by Microsoft's minority investment in SeaChange. Last May, the companies began collaborating to extend Windows Media Technologies from broadband Internet delivery to cable and broadcast television systems. The effort will give content providers and television operators a unified digital media platform that delivers video streams to both television and broadband Internet networks - accomplishing with one video streaming server what today requires two separate server systems. Content developers, such as the film and video industry, will be able to lower costs and maximize reach by creating digital media content once and delivering it over any network environment.
