Sea Slice makes the cut. (Digest).

Lockheed Martin's advanced hull form ship, the Sea Slice, is slated to participate as a littoral warfare ship in the US Navy's Fleet Battle Experiments Juliet (FBE-J) this summer. The Sea Slice is to demonstrate the flexibility achievable by modularity in a small, fast, highly manoeuvrable platform. During the FBE-J exercises, the vessel will be operating within 80 nm off the San Diego coast in a cluttered littoral environment against surface, sub-surface and air threats, and is to provide force protection, mine countermeasures and anti-submarine warfare operations. Although as unconventional looking to the eye as a seaborne vessel can possibly be, the Sea Slice is more than invisible on radar. So much so that its designers were forced to admit that it looked like a blank spot on radar screen--that omission was such a giveaway that a special `clutter-emitting' antenna array was added to hide the clear, doughnut-like hole the ship created on radar.
