Scouts tune in toradio link-up.


Scouts in Normanby gave a great reception to an international radio link-up.

The 2nd Normanby Scout Group took part in the Scouting organisation's annual Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) in partnership with Stockton & District Amateur Radio Group.

JOTA sees Scouts around the globe learn the phonetic alphabet, Morse Code Morse Code

There are many different roles a leader can fulfill depending on the type of unit.
 Matthew Lawrence said of this year's event: "It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all.

"We contacted loads of people in Germany, France, Holland, South Africa and, closer to home, Flatts Lane and Hartlepool!

"Not only is it fun to talk to Scouts from other parts of the world, but it provides a chance to find out about other countries and Scouting elsewhere.

"Many contacts made during JOTA have resulted in penpals and links between Scout groups that have lasted for many years."
