Scitex Boosts Performance/Functionality of Scitex Ripro Data Management System.
Announces Version 2.0 software, new server hardware, and
PathFinder for automatic reporting and updating from remote
Scitex Corporation Ltd. (Nasdaq: SCIXF) today announced an update and two key additions to its Scitex Ripro Data Management System (SRDMS), an automated server/archiving system for managing prepress and printing sites, image banks, and similar data-intensive operations. Together these new products deliver significant performance and functionality increases.
Available immediately is Version 2.0 software both for the Ripro Server and for SRDMS, which combines the Ripro Server with the Ripro Archiver.
Available early in 1997 is the Ripro Server 2100, new server hardware that is 25% faster than the current server. It is based on the PowerPC 604 CPU with PCI architecture.
Also available in 1997 will be Ripro PathFinder, which is a breakthrough product. PathFinder is the graphic arts industry's first utility that allows a reporting server to report file activity automatically to a database running on a separate machine.
SRDMS a unique product
In its Informix database, SRDMS automatically tracks the file activity of any storage device that is connected to it. This automatic updating, without user interface, of file activity and the ability to report that activity and the contents of storage devices to an Informix database is unique to SRDMS. No other system on the market offers it.
Ian Ehrenberg, Scitex America Vice President of Marketing and Sales, indicates that: these new products further lengthen SRDMS's lead in automated data management for the graphic arts. Given that 30% of operators time at many sites is spent on housekeeping chores searching, retrieving, storing, and organizing data SRDMS can make a dramatic contribution to a company's efficiency and profitability. Its ability to manage resources and automate processes excels that of any other system on the market.
Version 2.0 adds speed and functionality
Featuring a new version AIX OS, Ripro Server V2.0 improves write speed by 14% and read speed by 31%. It also supports larger disk partitions, includes Legato backup software for DLT devices, and enables JPEG translation in hot folders.
SRDMS V2.0 incorporates all these benefits and adds many more, including more flexible search options, improved support for remote clients over ISDN, import/export to the Imformix database using tab separated files, and integration with new the Scitex Brisque digital output controller and Spontane digital color printing system.
Ripro PathFinder breaks new ground in the graphic arts industry
Ripro PathFinder turns the Ripro Server or SRDMS into a tracked file server, allowing work to be distributed among separate servers. Thus different departments in an organization can have their own servers with all file information automatically tracked and retrieved from a common Ripro Archiver database.
Version 2.0 software is available immediately and will be distributed exclusively through Source Scitex, Scitex America's telemarketing and catalog sales group. Ripro 2100 is expected in Q1/97. PathFinder is expected in Q2/97. Source Scitex may be reached at 1-800-929-9209.
