Lawyers often ask physicians to provide expert opinions and to testify in court. Because of their different backgrounds, training, and perceptions of many issues, physicians and lawyers may have a different interpretation and appreciation of the same problem. This discrepancy can lead to confusion, especially because legal terms may be foreign to physicians and because lawyers often do not fully understand many medical terms. Science on the Witness Stand attempts to bridge this gap. It is a joint product of medical professionals and lawyers.

This 428-page book is well organized and easy to read. It is divided into 22 chapters and covers topics such as evidence-based disputes, elements of the medical opinion, civil litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right. Clear advice is provided with regard to how to prepare a report for use in court. Readers are also warned of pitfalls to avoid.
