EQUITY AWARDS: The Eugene School District's Equity Committee recently recognized several schools and individuals for their outstanding work advancing equity and human rights for all students. Honorees were Jefferson and Madison middle schools and Awbrey Park and River Road/El Camino del Rio elementary schools; students Martin Larson of North Eugene High School North Eugene High School is a public high school of about 1,200 students in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It is located at 200 Silver Lane near the Santa Clara area of Eugene.[1] North Eugene's mascot is the Highlander. , Raven Chanay of the NATIVES program and Churchill High School, Sifra Morrison of South Eugene High School South Eugene High School is a public high school located in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It was founded as Eugene High School around 1900, and was located at Willamette Street and West 11th Avenue in a brick building that later served as Eugene's city hall. , and all the students involved in the Latino Youth Project Survey; and district employees Diana Grandberry of Churchill High, Roscoe Caron of Jefferson Middle School Jefferson Middle School is a middle school located in Jefferson City, Tennessee. MATH MARVEL: Theo Johnson-Freyd, who just completed his junior year at South Eugene High School, has been invited to a one-month, all-expenses-paid Mathematical Olympiad Summer Program at the University of Nebraska. The program is for Olympiad qualifiers who may be eligible to compete in the International Olympiad later, either this summer or next. Johnson-Freyd was also one of only two Oregon students to be awarded a $1,000 college scholarship based on his score on the American Invitational Mathematics Examination The AIME (or American Invitational Mathematics Examination) is a 15-question test given since 1983 to those who rank in the top 5% (or score at least 100) on the AMC 12 high school mathematics contest (formerly known as the AHSME), and those who rank in the top 1% (or score  earlier this year.

ESSAY WINNER: Kayley Richmond, who just finished her sophomore year at North Eugene High School, took third place in the Oregon Liquor Control Commission's 2002 Student Essay Contest, ninth-to-12th-grade category. The theme was "say no your own way; create an anti-drinking slogan." She won a $200 savings bond.
