Want to go over lesson plans with a colleague on a Saturday
afternoon? Try your local Best Buy or Starbucks--where you just might
find one of your coworkers selling electronics or steaming lattes.

During the school year, 13% of teachers hold second jobs outside of
the school system, working in everything from real estate to bartending.
Over the summer, this number increases to 19%, and that doesn't
include the teachers who sign on for summer school gigs. American
Federation of Teachers spokesperson George Jackson has said, "I
think it just underscores the point that many teachers are underpaid and
have to do things to make ends meet."
