Johns Hopkins in 1867 had a group of his associates incorporated as the trustees of a university and a hospital, endowing each with $3.5 million. Daniel C. , for his project, "Mechanisms of Gaze Stability in Recovery of Dynamic Visual Acuity." This project will attempt to determine how the brain stabilizes vision during head motion following rehabilitation in people with inner ear disorders. This grant was made possible by the Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge, an annual grassroots student fundraising effort coordinated in 2004 by physical therapist students from Marquette University and the University of Pittsburgh. Each year, the money raised by the Challenge funds a Foundation grant to evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions.
