$70,000 in Foundation Funding Awarded

The Foundation Board of Trustees board of trustees Politics The posse of thugs who oversee an institution's administration. See Board of directors.  recently awarded a 1-year, $40,000 research grant to Michael C Schubert, PT, MS, PhD, The Johns Hopkins University Johns Hopkins University, mainly at Baltimore, Md. Johns Hopkins in 1867 had a group of his associates incorporated as the trustees of a university and a hospital, endowing each with $3.5 million. Daniel C. , for his project, "Mechanisms of Gaze Stability in Recovery of Dynamic Visual Acuity." This project will attempt to determine how the brain stabilizes vision during head motion following rehabilitation in people with inner ear disorders. This grant was made possible by the Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge, an annual grassroots student fundraising effort coordinated in 2004 by physical therapist students from Marquette University and the University of Pittsburgh. Each year, the money raised by the Challenge funds a Foundation grant to evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions.

"We are committed to providing dedicated physical therapists with the funding they need to conduct evidence-based research," said Nancy T White, PT, MS, OCS OCS - Object Compatibility Standard , President and Chair of the Foundation. "We are excited about promising research such as Michael's, and we look forward to following the progress of his study."

In addition, the Board awarded $5,000 McMillan Doctoral Scholarships to the following 6 postprofessional doctoral students in their first year of graduate studies:

"The Foundation is thrilled to support this year's scholarship winners," White said. "We eagerly anticipate their contributions to the physical therapy profession." These McMillan Doctoral Scholarships are generously funded by the Henry O and Florence P Kendall Endowment Fund.

2005 Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge Schools Stepping Up

There are currently 48 schools pledged to participate in the Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge; 16 are first time participants! There is still time for your school to become involved in this student-led grassroots activity that raises funds for physical therapy research.
