Combined Federal Campaign The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is a program allowing certain charitable organizations to solicit contributions from employees of the Federal Government of the United States.

For the first time, the Foundation for Physical Therapy is listed among charitable and philanthropic organizations eligible for donations from the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) of the federal government's Office of Personnel Management. The identification number for donors to use in designating their CFC gifts to the Foundation is #1049. The CFC allows local, national, and international charitable and philanthropic organizations to receive voluntary contributions from employees of the federal government, armed forces, and the US Postal Service. It is the only authorized solicitation of employees in the federal workplace on behalf of charitable organizations. In operation for more than 30 years, the CFC gives nearly all of what it collects to the charities, spending only a small percentage on fundraising and overhead costs. Campaigns are conducted during a 6-week period from September 1 through December 15 at every federal agency in the campaign community.

Recipients in the News

John D Childs, PT, MS, MBA, OCS, CSCS, FAAOMPT, University of Pittsburgh, 2001 PODS I recipient, was the recipient of a 2003 Sports Physical Therapy Section Small Grant Award for his study titled, "Competency in Musculoskeletal Medicine: Physical Therapist vs Physician Performance." The primary aim of this project is to compare competency in musculoskeletal medicine based on performance on an examination between entry-level therapists and physicians who have recently completed 4 years of medical school education. If therapists demonstrate similar or greater levels of competency than their physician counterparts, this would provide some level of evidence that physical therapists have an adequate knowledge in musculoskeletal medicine to legitimize the profession's claim to provide direct access care.

Julie M Fritz, PT, PhD, ATC, Assistant Professor, University of Pittsburgh, 2002 Research Grant recipient, was awarded the Rose Excellence in Research Award for 2003. She received this award for a paper titled, "The Role of Fear-Avoidance Beliefs in Acute Low Back Pain: Relationships With Current and Future Disability and Work Status," that contained the data collected as part of the Clinical Research Center for Low Back Pain Research funded by the Foundation.
