"Perenco required voice, fax and data connectivity between each of its remote locations where the communications infrastructure was severely limited," said Herve Duchenne-Cretier, Information Technology Manager, Perenco. "Schlumberger provided real-time, remote connectivity with its very small aperture terminal (communications) Very Small Aperture Terminal - (VSAT) A kind of ground station used to contact a communications satellite such as INMARSAT.  (VSAT (Very Small Aperture satellite Terminal) A small earth station for satellite transmission that handles up to 56 Kbits/sec of digital transmission. Connectivity is established between each Perenco remote site located in West Africa using Schlumberger VSAT technology, and each of these sites has a link to the European office. Connectivity between the Perenco locations in West Africa and the European offices is established and secured through the Schlumberger teleport facility in Aberdeen.

Schlumberger also deployed digital line-of-sight equipment both on- and offshore providing both locations full access to the network in a cost-efficient manner.

"In an environment where the traditional infrastructure was unable to support the requirements of a major oil and gas operator, Schlumberger implemented both fixed, land-based systems and stabilized systems designed for marine use," said Peter Goode, president, Energy IT services, SchlumbergerSema. "Perenco not only has the ability to communicate with all its offices in West Africa but all locations are now able to communicate with each other."
