. SchlumbergerSema deployed the DeXa Suite of Services, an integrated series of IT solutions for connectivity and information security, to provide consulting services Noun 1. consulting service - service provided by a professional advisor (e.g., a lawyer or doctor or CPA etc.)
service - work done by one person or group that benefits another; "budget separately for goods and services"
and implementation solutions that addressed both the authorization systems for critical-access personnel and the data and delivery systems for event results.

"We approached this project with a heightened concern for ensuring that the Olympic Winter Games data and networks remained free from threat," said Xavier Flinois, president of Schlumberger Network Solutions. "We conducted process risk analysis and analyzed scenarios so that we could thoroughly prepare and protect the systems. The result of our efforts created a non-event in which reliable data were always available in the right place, at the right time -- a key Schlumberger objective."

With viewers from around the world expecting real-time information, SchlumbergerSema was responsible for ensuring the integrity of event results, athlete profiles, and historical records as the data were captured, validated and distributed to the broadcast and print media and to the results Web sites. This networked repository of information also housed commentator information, key facts and human-interest elements. Schlumberger was also responsible for safeguarding data in the Games Management System, a system designed and built by SchlumbergerSema that addressed the Games' planning and administration.

"Prior to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games we conducted exhaustive preparation and testing, including simulation testing and technical rehearsals," stated Jean Chevallier, vice president of SchlumbergerSema. "Now, moving towards the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, and looking toward Turin in 2006 and Beijing in 2008, we will be reviewing our experiences in Salt Lake City and capturing best practices to be sure that acquired knowledge is applied to these future events as we continue to serve the International Olympic Committee “IOC” redirects here.
