Schlumberger Announces New Mobile Laboratory Service For Pressure-Volume-Temperature Analysis; New PVT Express Delivers Analysis In Just Hours At the Wellsite.Energy Editors/Business Editors HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 2003 Schlumberger Oilfield Services Schlumberger Oilfield Services, a division of Schlumberger Limited, is the world’s largest supplier of exploration and production (E&P) services, solutions and technology to the international petroleum industry. today announced its new PVT Express(a) wellsite fluid analysis service, which can deliver reliable fluid property results in as little as eight hours in turn around processing time. PVT Express delivers a step change in pressure-volume-temperature (PVT) fluid analysis turn around time, using less than 50 ml of fluids, enabling informed decisions during logging and well-testing operations and eliminating costs associated with traditional fluid analysis operations. Traditional laboratory services are conducted in fixed-location laboratories and take between six to eight weeks to analyze fluid measurements and require 200-4000 ml of fluid. In a well offshore Newfoundland, the PVT Express system delivered two complete PVT studies within hours of recovering the MDT MDT abbr. Mountain Daylight Time MDT (in the US and Canada) Mountain Daylight Time MDT n abbr (US) (= mountain daylight time) → samples at the surface. These results matched the known PVT properties from the exploratory well, eliminating the requirement to do a well test and resulting in earlier economic analysis for completion design and speedier field development. "PVT Express brings to the oil and gas Industry a technology that is a unique laboratory system which delivers to our clients early PVT results for critical well site decisions," said Sudhir Pai, business development manager for testing and completions, Schlumberger Oilfield Services. "This mobile laboratory validates sample quality during wireline formation testing, drill stem testing In oil and natural gas extraction, the drill stem includes the drill pipe, drill collars, bottomhole assembly, and drill bit. A drill stem test (DST) is a procedure for testing the surrounding geological formation through the drill pipe. or production testing operations." Its mercury-free laboratory equipment and modular rugged construction allows it to be fully transportable by land, sea or air. The PVT Express hardware/software laboratory includes fiber-optic sensors to measure saturation pressure of gas condensates, volatile oils (Chem.) See See also: Volatile and black oils. Patented helium ionization detectors A helium ionization detector (HID) is a type of detector used in gas chromatography. Principle An HID is an ion detector which uses a radioactive source to produce ions. The radioactive source ionizes helium atoms by bombarding them with emissions. are used in dual gas chromatography gas chromatography (GC) Type of chromatography with a gas mixture as the mobile phase. In a packed column, the packing or solid support (held in a tube) serves as the stationary phase (vapour-phase chromatography, or VPC) or is coated with a liquid stationary phase to perform C12+ gas analysis and C36+ liquid analysis. The Schlumberger proprietary PVT Expert software model processes all laboratory measurements and instantly provides the final PVT report. Additionally the PVT Expert software model assesses the reliability of the PVT results to ensure data quality. For additional information, go to www.slb.com/oilfield/pvt.
