With about an hour left in the trading day, the SPX has inched higher by 0.27 percent. Slightly more than half of the index's components (55 percent) have muscled into positive territory.

Former employer of Desperate Housewife Teri Hatcher, RadioShack (NYSE:RSH), isn't feeling too desperate today as it enjoys a 14-percent jump on heavy volume. The stock has notched its highest reading since its mid-March plunge, and is well on its way to filling the bear gap created when the firm fell short of second-quarter earnings expectations. Spurring the stock's rally today was news that the electronics retailer signed a 10-year contract with Cingular Wireless and an 11-year deal with Sprint PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. Humana (NYSE:HUM) is in second place this afternoon after a positive turn in the earnings confessional. The insurance firm banked $84.1 million, or 51 cents per share Cents per share

For the future, HUM officials expect 2005 revenue of $14.5 billion, resulting in earnings per share of $2.23 to $2.25, compared to analysts' expectations of $2.12 per share. Earnings for 2006 are targeted at $2.80 per share, well above Wall Street's per-share expectations of $2.49.

eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) is rallying solidly thanks to an upgrade from Smith Barney. Ahead of this morning's opening bell, the brokerage boosted its rating on the auctioneering pioneer to a "buy" from a "hold." The brokerage also mentioned recent reports from Google (GOOG) affirming that the Internet newbie A first-time user. Today's nearly five-percent boost in EBAY has ushered it beyond its 10-month and 20-month moving averages, which were nearing a bearish crossover. EBAY has not managed a monthly close atop this pair of long-term trendlines since December.

Group (CIT) is also the beneficiary of some good news from Wall Street today. Early this morning, CIBC CIBC Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce
CIBC Centres Interinstitutionnels de Bilan de Compétences

initiated coverage on the financial-services concern with a "sector outperformer" designation. CIBC expressed confidence in the firm's new CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and expects improved revenue growth from the firm. The brokerage set a 12-to-18 month price target of $53, almost 16 percent above current levels.

A management shake-up and lackluster earnings results have sent Symbol Technologies (NYSE:SBL) lower by more than 13 percent this Monday. It hit newswires early this morning that William Nuti, President and CEO of SBL, resigned to take the head post at NCR (NCR Corporation, Dayton, OH, www.ncr.com) A technology company specializing in financial terminal transactions, retail systems and data warehousing. Until the late 1990s, NCR was heavily invested in the hardware side of the industry, known worldwide as a major manufacturer of computers  (NCR). NCR isn't taking the news in stride either, as it is among the broader-market laggards itself today. Adding insult to injury at SBL, the firm reported a second-quarter earnings loss of 12 cents per share, mirroring last year's 12-cent gain for the same time frame, and falling short of Wall Street's expectations of two pennies per share. Excluding various items, however, the firm did manage to match analysts' consensus view. Revenue was down 1.2 percent during the quarter to $427.8 million.

Archer-Daniels-Midland (NYSE:ADM) is smarting from a downgrade by CSFB CSFB Credit Suisse First Boston

. The brokerage lowered its rating to "neutral" from "outperform," citing price appreciation, little action on share buyback plans, and concern over a price dip in ethanol. The stock is trading more than five percent lower.
