11:03 AM Harley-Davidson Tops Earnings Expectations

This morning before the market open, Harley-Davidson (NYSE:HDI) reported third-quarter earnings of 96 cents per share Cents per share

, six cents ahead of the consensus estimate. Company revenues rose 10 percent on a year-over-year basis to $1.43 billion, in line with expectations. HDI reaffirmed earnings guidance for fiscal year 2005 and also issued a "conservative" outlook for fiscal year 2006 earnings, due to uncertainty surrounding consumer confidence.

Although the stock gapped nearly seven percent higher on the open, HDI has pulled back from its intraday Intraday

, and other industrial and construction supplies. This morning before the market open, FAST reported third-quarter earnings of 61 cents per share, four cents ahead of the Street estimate. Company revenues increased 23.5 percent on a year-over-year basis to $402.2 million, versus the consensus estimate of $394 million. FAST also announced a two-for-one stock split this morning. This positive news has propelled the shares better than seven percent higher to $65.88.

2:01 PM QUALCOMM Moves Lower Amid Optimism

QUALCOMM (NASDAQ:QCOM) continues to be under pressure today, yet options players are still piling into call options on the security. Today's call volume on QCOM is in excess of 20,000 contracts, which is about four times the stock's average call volume. The Schaeffer put/call open interest ratio on the security of 0.56 is already lower than 84 percent of readings taken during the past year. Given that QCOM shares have been showing weakness amid this display of optimism, I'd expect further weakness for the shares over the near term.

2:54 PM ICOS Up on Positive Drug Trial

Pharmaceutical concern ICOS Corp. (NASDAQ:ICOS) is higher today on the news that Lilly ICOS (a joint venture with Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY)) announced positive results from Phase II study of Tadalafil in treating symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia benign prostatic hyperplasia

. The stock opened more than 12 percent higher and then dipped during the first 40 minutes of trading. It has now recovered, and is up more than seven percent to $27.21. While the stock is still slightly below its level at the start of the year, it has enjoyed a nice rally during the past four months. ICOS is up 30.7 percent from its June 10 close of $20.82. Pessimism in the form of short interest is rather high. The more than 6.8 million shares sold short amount to almost 11 percent of the stock's float. Also, at an average daily stock volume of 654,000, ICOS's short-interest ratio short-interest ratio

is a hefty 10.4 days. Analysts are somewhat pessimistic, too. Seven of 11 analysts have a "hold" or worse rating on the stock.
