Today the stock is over three percent higher on news of the company's exploration of options for its Baja Fresh Mexican Grill unit and the addition of three members to its board. It also said it would complete the initial public offering of its Tim Horton's doughnut chain and spin off its remaining shares before the end of the year. Previously, WEN had said it wouldn't entirely split off the brand this year to avoid tax costs tax costs n. a motion to contest a claim for court costs submitted by a prevailing party in a lawsuit. It is called a "Motion to Tax Costs" and asks the judge to deny or reduce claimed costs. . The stock has been a strong performer, gaining more than 26 percent in the last four months. This advance has been supported well by its 50-day moving average. WEN is trading at an all-time high above 60 as shareholder activists press the company to unlock the value in its non-hamburger businesses. 3:44 PM Intel Doesn't Ruin the Day Looks like we're seeing some profit taking going into the close, as the Nasdaq Composite (COMP) and the S&P 500 Index (SPX (Sequenced Packet EXchange) The transport layer protocol in the NetWare operating system. Similar to the TCP layer in TCP/IP, it ensures that the entire message arrives intact. SPX uses NetWare's IPX as its delivery mechanism. ) are both negative - while the Dow Jones Industrial Average Dow Jones Industrial Average The best known U.S. index of stocks. A price-weighted average of 30 actively traded blue-chip stocks, primarily industrials including stocks that trade on the New York Stock Exchange. (DJAI) is up 19 points. Regardless, given how much futures were down this morning after Intel (INTC INTC Intel (NASDAQ symbol) INTC Intercept INTC Interrupt Controller ) lowered guidance, I think most observers would have to be very happy with today's action. Speaking of INTC, the shares are down a little more than one percent. Honestly, that isn't too bad. I think everyone got all "bear-ed up" on the news, then reality hit that INTC isn't the leader it was once, and with that came some buyers. All in all, this was a wild week. It was very tough trading, as we simply couldn't get even a two-day trend going. Here's to easier trading next week and hopefully some profitable trades as well. 2:59 PM More Gains for Steel Stocks As I've mentioned in this blog a few times over the past month, steel is one sector that I think is going to be strong over the coming months. Fortunately I've been right, as the SIG Steel Producers Index (STQ STQ Speech Transmission Quality STQ Skill Testing Question STQ Store Queue STQ Sub Transaction Qualifier STQ Store Quadword ) is up more than three percent to another new all-time high. Sparking the rally in steel stocks today is a rumor that United States Steel (NYSE:X) might be looking to buy AK Steel (NYSE:AKS). The news has AKS up more than 20 percent. Some other names to look at regarding steel are Oregon Steel Mills (OS), Nucor (NUE NUE Nitrogen Use Efficiency NUE Nuremberg, Germany - Nuremberg (Airport Code) NUE Non-Upset Ends (piping) ), and Steel Dynamics (STLD STLD Sponsored Top Level Domain STLD Society of Television Lighting Directors STLD Superimposed Training-Based Linear Dispersion STLD Shared Top Level Domain STLD Sponsored Tld ). Also if you're looking for Looking for In the context of general equities, this describing a buy interest in which a dealer is asked to offer stock, often involving a capital commitment. Antithesis of in touch with. a way to trade the bull market in steel and other metals, I'd invite you to check out Schaeffer's new Gold and Metals Prospector service. All I'll say is we had some calls on AKS in that service and today has been a very nice day for our subscribers. Futures spiked lower before the open, following lowered revenue guidance out of Intel (INTC). The upward move has been persistent, as traders seem unwilling to give up the 11,000 mark on the Dow. Nevertheless, the market internals seem rather weak given the Dow is up over 70 points and the Nasdaq is up more than 12. The advance/decline line is running around 1.30 on both the NYSE and the Nasdaq. Given such a strong move higher, we'd expect something closer to 2.00. Just something to keep in mind.
