Most of you know the ubiquitous roadside Cracker Barrel This article is about the restaurant-and-store chain. The stock is almost 18 percent higher after the company announced it was in the process of reviewing potential capital structure initiatives intended to enhance shareholder value. CBRL said it has been interviewing firms to serve as a financial advisor to assist management in the review process. It also noted that certain capital structure initiatives under consideration could affect its previously issued guidance. Accordingly, CBRL formally withdrew any existing financial guidance. No further guidance will be issued until after completion of the review of capital structure alternatives. In early October, there were only slightly more calls outstanding on ORCL than puts, which also coincided with a short-term low for the shares. Now, after watching the stock trade sideways for the past few months, there are nearly twice as many calls as there are puts outstanding. Today's option activity included call volume that was four times that of put volume, and today's activity includes call volume that is 10 times that of comparable put volume. The shares are up about 2.5 percent today to $12.51. Over-optimism, however, could lead to a pullback before long. 2:19 PM QUALCOMM Set to Report Earnings After the Close QUALCOMM (NASDAQ:QCOM) is expected to report fiscal first-quarter earnings today after the closing bell. The consensus estimate is for earnings of 38 cents per share Cents per share The amount of a mutual fund's dividend or capital gains distributions that a shareholder will receive for each share owned. . Expectations are running high as options players are heavily tilted toward the call side. Near-the-money February call volume is running around 20,000 contracts while respective put volume is about half that. Also, the current Schaeffer put/call open interest ratio on QCOM of 0.51 is below 96 percent of readings over the past year. Rounding out the sentiment picture is low short interest and analyst opinion that includes 16 "buy" ratings, nine "hold" ratings, and not a single "sell" rating. If this company doesn't report strong numbers then I'd watch out for a serious sell off. The above are just a few of today's Daily Market Blog entries.
