It seems that traders are hoping for a bounce in the shares, and have been buying calls at four times the rate that they've been buying puts today. The Schaeffer put/call open interest ratio on the security is already below 82 percent of readings taken during the past year. Optimism amid weak price action usually isn't a good sign for the near term of a stock. 12:35 PM Won't You Be My Nabors? Oil services company Nabors Industries (NYSE:NBR) finds itself in a bit of a predicament both fundamentally and technically at the moment. On the fundamental side, NBR said this morning that it is initiating a further review of its option granting practices in light of "issues raised" in an article published by The Wall Street Journal. The company said this review follows a pre-cautionary internal review earlier in 2006 of its stock option practices going back to 1998. On the technical side, the shares are in the process of rebounding from round-number support at the 30 level. This region has helped buoy NBR on a monthly basis since July 2005. However, the stock has met with short-term resistance in the 30.50-31 region. This area has troubled NBR for much of the past two months and is capping the security in today's trading. Sentiment is quite bearish toward the shares, with a Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR SOIR Schaeffer's Put/Call Open Interest Ratio SOIR Simultaneous Operations on Intersecting Runways ) of 0.60 in the 81st percentile and a short-to-float ratio of more than six percent. However, with the stock down more than 25 percent since its mid-May peak, and analysts doling out nine "buys," four "holds," and just one "sell," NBR stands on pretty shaky ground.
